Sungei Buloh Fellowship Walk

Hi World~

A few of us just went to Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve for a fellowship walk this morning! Rotaractor Jason and Amanda's cousin, Jasmine, joined us for this fun and educational trip through the mangrove swamps in SB.

Why is it educational?

Cox we actually had 2 guides for the walk! They introduced and explained to us several species in the Mangrove as we walked along the trail. It is indeed very enriching for the few of us who have not been to a nature reserve for quite some time!

The Rotaract Club of North West would like to congratulate our IPP Wendy Neo and Rotarian Dalon Quah (also a PP of our club) on the safe delivery of that brand new boucing baby boy.

Their little bundle of joy, Xylon Quah Yi Ren, was born on 12th August 2007 at 2247hrs at Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

Its a victory for The Wild Wild North West this year. All the cowboys and cowgirls gathered at this installation and witness the ceremony.

And yet again, RAC North West, had a good start for the year. Congratulation to President Kumar!

The club would like to take this opportunity to thank the rotarians, rotaractors, interactors, guests and friends. You have booze up the installation's spirits.

Dear all,

We have just attended the District 3310 RDA last sat, 28 July 07.

As the Rotaract District Assembly is a mandatory & all important training assembly for all incoming Rotaract Club Presidents & Club Officers to be equipped with the proper skills' set for the new Rotary Year.

The RDA is catered for Rotaract Club's Board of Directors and its members who are keen to learn and excel inorder to lead their beloved Rotaract Clubs to even greater heights.

The Rotaract theme, the DRR Lina has chosen for our District this incoming Rotary year 07/08 is, "Rotaract Shares," she hopes to have a super year ahead culminating in the Celebration of 40 years of Rotaract in 2008.

SHOUT OUT Announcement!!!!

Dear Advisors, BODs & members of RAC North West,

Time flies and Rotary Year 06/07 is coming to an end.

I must say it has been a smoothsailing and fun year. We spent time doing projects, fellowships and having countless meetings together.

I would like to call for a celebration to end the Rotary year 2006/07. There will be a club fellowship with outdoor games and a makan session. There will be heaps of fun awaiting for you.

Rotary Family Day - Actual Day!

Its a day where the rotary family gather and bond together! We have accomplished quite a few things! From cooking, doing community service and bowling session. Wow! Its been a long day.

In the Nutshell,

On 1st June,

We arrived at PP Lilian's place (RCSC) at 8pm. What did we do? Many of them were assigned to cutting, peeling, boiling and dicing. Some of them received some guidances from PP Lilian (the chef), on how to peel, cut and dice.. Haha... Well, not everyone was awared of what and how should they do it. But I strongly believed everyone had fun. We ended the session early, reason being, we will continue the next day at 6am, that's where all the intense cooking start.

Although, we ended the session early, we stayed back for a short fellowship. We got to enjoy the home-baked cheesecake by PP Lilian's. It was suberb!!! Delicious!! Two thumbs up! The cheesecake was decorated with fresh strawberries and it was so beautifully decorated that we can't bear to destory it. hahah.. but as many of us were so hungry! so... most of the cheesecake went into our tummy.. Oh not forgetting the yummy chicken satays!! Guys, dun drool.. :P Thanks to PP Lilian for the hospitality!

On 2nd June,

We started the morning really early, at about 6am! Wow, that's the earliest day as in we actually wake up before the sunrise to work on a project! haha... That morning, we accomplished quite a sheer amount of tasks, such as frying, cooking, boiling, peeling, cutting, packing, etc... we managed to complete by 10.30am. Its amazing right? Well, that's what we call "TEAMWORK". PP Lilian helped to assign tasks and we make sure we get it done! We have evidence of some of our folks sweating away helping out in the kitchen.. I must admit that its not easy to enclose yourself in the kitchen and cook for many hours! Its really piping hot and you will perspire profusely.

Also, we were honored to have one of the rotaractors from RAC KJ, our sister club, Teresa Chian, to join us in this event. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank her for the help!
At 10.30am, we prepared the food and get ready for the delivery to the Villa Francis Home. After which, we had a nice lunch prepared by PP Lilian and set off to Villa Francis Home to do our community service. We arrived at 11.15am, the interactors already started serving food to the old folks.
Based on what we gathered at the Villa Francis Home:

The old folks were gulping the food. They love it and they went for second serving!

They finished the desserts!

While the old folks were savoring their food, the interactors sang songs to keep them entertained.

AFTER the community service, we proceed to the bowling alley at Safra Mt Faber. We have 6 groups of participants to compete in this Rotary Family Bowling League. Trophies were prepared for the Best Male, Female, Gold, Sliver and Bronze winners.
The winners are:

Best Male Bowler: Rtr Kingli Ho

Gold Winners: PP Richard Yap/ Teacher Advisor Peter Yeo, Rtr Calvin Mak, Intr Shu Rou, Intr Farizmi

Bronze Winners: Rtr Alan Loh, Rtr Hazrizal, Intr Jia Mian, Intr Su Yu

We thank all the guests and friends who came forward to support this event!

This event, it not just about cooking, doing community service and bowling. Its about fellowship and bonding with the Rotarians, Rotaracters and Interactors. This event happens once a year. And once again we have acheived the togetherness!

Rotary Family Day

Alerting ALL NW rotaractors!!

It is time to lend a helping hand and participate.
Why? Its a Rotary Family Day! So kindly confirm your availability with Rtr Calvin ASAP.

The following are the tasks for 2 days, please try to join all else choose either at least two.

A.) 1 Jun (Fri), arrive 8-9 pm : Due to sheer amt of food to be prepared, asking for a smaller group of 5-10 sleepover volunteers to arrive on Fri night to assist PP Lilian. Otherwise, need volunteers to arrive as early as 6am on 2 Jun.
B.) 2 Jun (Sat),

- Arrive at 6am at Lilian's place to help out with the food.

- Arrive at 8:30 am: Bulk of volunteers to arrive on the morning of the event at Villa Francis Home.

C.) 2 Jun (Sat), Bowling events, we do need people to confirm so we can book the lanes as per the participants/supporters. If you don't/can't bowl, come join us and mingle with the rotarians and interactors.

Do advice on the above.

5:00 pm – Results. Prize-giving ceremony. Makan.

First Meeting for 2007/08 Incoming BOD

Happy Labour Day! Here we are, meeting on the 1st May 07.... Hahaha..
The meeting was held at Rtr Alger's place.
The purpose of the meeting is to gather the incoming BOD and brainstorm for the next rotary year.
FYI, PE Kumar is chairing the meeting and making full use of this session.
Not forgetting, a guest was invited to this meeting. As mentioned by PE Kumar, he has shown great interest about Rotaract. Hooray, a potential member... :P... We gladly welcome him to the club!

RAC NW PD Bowling Workshop!

Its a friday evening on 27th April 2007. Participants were rotaractors, rotarian and guest and they were enthusiatic about this session. They wanna absorb as much bowling knowledge as possible. We have invited a special guest speaker, Mr Richard Koh, a certified level 3 coach, to impart the bowling tactics.

Theory Session
Its more like a discussion session. Mr Richard shared his good and bad experiences with all of us.
Practical session: Guiding and coaching. Mr Richard is explaining the tactics and correcting their mistakes.
Practical session: Going thru the Do's and Don'ts about bowling. Everyone has shown great attention.. :)
After the session, our club rewarded Mr Richard for his time and effort.

Our group photo: It was a great success! Most of the amateur bowlers have gained a lot from this session.. Now, RAC North West will be the long term champion for the zonal bowling. DO WATCH OUT!! Hahaha..Kidding!!!! But most importantly, we all enjoyed bowling and bond together while bowling. Its a good fellowship session! Do consider to join us... :)

Fellowship with RAC KJ

On the 6 Apr 07, we went up to KL and met up with our sister club for a lunch session. Its been a while since we meet up with them. Its kinda reminiscing abit. The last visit was way back in mid Apr 06. That's a year ago! We had great fun and RAC KJ rotaractors were excellent hosts...haha..

Anyhow, the purpose of this visit is to meet up with them, catch up abit and have a fellowship session with the RAC KJ rotaractors. They are still as hyper and happy as ever.

We had a pretty good session at the indian makan place. And updated each other about the club.

The whole session ended in about 3hrs, afterwhich, we set off to another destination for holiday. :P

Hey! guess who's daughter is she? She is born on the 23rd Mar 07 at wee hours.. hahaha... naughty heh... She is one of the golden pig babies.. Isn't she is a sweetie... She has a lovely smile..

Her name is Trisha. She resembles her mum, May, so much.. Good for her...

Alrite, she is none other than our club Treasurer, Rtr Adrian Tao's daughter.... hmmm.. So many babies this year... wooo... Anyhow, let's congrats Mr and Mrs Tao!

PD Bowling Workshop (Act Fast!!)

Here's little oscar... yawning away to greet everyone...He is such a cutie heh... He inherit a cheeky smile from his father... good or bad.. hehe... no comments..
Little Jin Yih is abt 3 mths old.. He is inclined to make his own decision since before birth.. Isn't that cool? Will he be another Mr Brainy? Let's just wait and see. :)
This baby boy decided to arrive earlier than usual and be a dog rather than a golden pig.. :P

Its babies blooming year! So many babies arriving this year... they are everywhere...

Feb 12th was a Happy and Fulfilling day as RAC NW, along with Rotarians and other fellow Rotaractors from other Clubs joined us in the celebration of our Beloved Club President Wendy Neo's Birthday, whose age i won't reveal. All we need to know that she's still young and hyper! =)
It was a delightful evening at a secluded yet romantic dinner @ Secret Garden. A marvellous candlelight setting.

Glory of RAC Northwest

Rotaract Zonal Bowling Championship 2006

Zonal Bowling Competition 2006 for Rotaract District 3310 Zone 3 Singapore had ended on a high note. We were honored and priviledged to have our very own District Governor Elect Chris Chan as our Guest-Of-Honor for the event held on 23rd December 2006 at Kim Seng Plaza Bowling Center.

The event started off with our GOH DGE Chris Chan who bowled the first ball to "kick start" the event. After which, we presented a gift to our GOH to thank him for taking his precious time to attend. The event officially began. There were 12 teams from our Zone who took part in the event to vie for 8 titles in all.

Rotaract Club of Northwest managed to clinch 4 titles out of 8 titles, namely
The champion team,
Best Male Rotaractor Bowler- IPP Dalon,
Best Female Rotaractor Bowler – President Wendy
and Female Long Kang Award – Rtr Irene

What's more valuable about this event is that we are able to see various Rotaract Clubs in our zone coming together to have fun and build a closer zone 3 towards a closer and united District 3310. Furthermore, we are able to see fellow Rotarians from their own sponsoring Rotary Club coming down to join in for fun and to build the bond between Rotarians and Rotaractors under the same family.

Well , on the 16th of December, the Rotaractors gathered on a cheerful Saturday Afternoon at our club service Director, Alger's House to clebrate the Rotaractors birthday. With the Cake bought by our President Wendy, Husband Ipp Dalon, and Club Service Alger, it was a sweet process celebrating for 6 rotaractors.

Once again, Happy birthday to these Rotaractors and to all... a coming MERRY CHRISTMAS and a Happy new YEar!!!

Congratulations to Rotarian Violet Lim for giving birth to a new blessed baby.and below are some wonderfully adorable pictures of her baby. Btw, wendy is going gaga over it now, which i bet all of you would.

The Romantic Story of our Rotaract IPP and Pres from the Unromantic writer

As a 17 year old, i can't gurantee Romance in my writing. But i will try my best to illustrate the love in our club member's memories.

Pictured as a romantic place where love blooms slowly in spring, it was 7 years ago when 2 heartfelt Singaporeans met as friends whilst studying in a pretigious college in Australia, Brisbane.

Even though the relationship started out as friends, chemistry built upon them. That was in 1999. I was primary 3 and didn't understand what's Love yet.

Well, they only got attached when they returned from Australia and further tied on whilt bowling weekly at Kim Seng Plaza. The Passion for Bowling Pinned those 2 togther.

Okay, when i was 16 i first officially met Wendy and Dalon . These couple was sweet and of course charitable. I enjoy their treats.

I admire a couple who dares to spend their supposedly romantic weekends strolling streets and doing boring daily routine of saying " i love you" and just plain walking around BUT this couple makes me jealous even more. They spend their Love time by joining a time consuming club called a Rotaract Club. one would have thought that this would jetlag that relationship, but no.

The relationship grew like wildfire. Let me explain to you the concepts of love. By working together, one's relationship will be faced with the untremendous pressure, and thus if stamina stays strong, love ties will strengthen. The best part is, they always go out in a group, meaning none of us members would feel left out if their sweety patty movement,s in fact, there's none, except Dalon's occassional handholding in the Lift =) They never ostracize us but all of us hang out together as a club. and our club love them even more.

Like our Group always say " Go out in a Group " . This is the phrase our Team stuck to and thats why all of us are so united, whether single or attached =0

This is furthermore when they have the excuse to travel out of Singapore together in the name of , yes , Rotaract.

i believe they would say, Rotaract gives the young ones opportunity, and yes in their case, the opportunity for more Love.

And yes, now 2007, our club will witness it's first couple in RAC NW to be married. And i strongly say the 1st in Singapore to do so.

A role model of bringing love into a club, our IPP Dalon Quah and President Wendy are going to walk down the aisle this December.

I believe all of us Rotaractors would bless them in bliss and maintain the loving-ness in them.

SPread the love in Rotaract. Congrats to the lovebirds, Wendy and Dalon !!!

RAC NW PE : Shanti Kumar

CONGRATULATIONS to SHANTI KUMAR, our new President Elect 2006/2007. RAC NW would be looking forward to you leading us to greater heights in the next coming term and of course, SET SAIL FOR THE STARS, a vision set by our PE, Kumar.

On the 29th of October , Sunday, was RAC NW's Election day, held at our very own Club Service director Alger's house. While waiting for the election to begin, Finger licking food was served, made by Alger's mum and sister , whoses culinary skills are to be applauded.

The president Nominees were Calvin Mak and Shanti Kumar, who were sponsored by Haz and Alger respectively.

Both Candidates made their speeches , both awe- inspiring and had a great vision , both to unite the club together and to bring them to greater heights!

In the end, Shanti Kumar won the election, fully prepared to take up the role . Congrats Kumar!!

RAC NW would be looking forward to you leading us to SET SAIL FOR THE STARS!

Asia Pacific Regional Rotaract Conference (APRRC) - Philippines

31^st Aug – 3^rd Sept 2006

Tagaytay City

THE location of the 3^rd APRRC is set in a scenic city overlooking, the still active, Taal Lake and volcano. APRRC is an event to promote International Understanding and sharing of ideas between the rotaractors of Asia Pacific. It was the first time for many of the 24 delegates of RID3310 to attend APRRC and the anticipation and excitement could be felt in the flood of emails sent prior to the event.

30^th Aug – Day 0

MANY of the participants arrived a day early to enjoy the sights and sounds of Tagaytay City. Being true to our culture, the moment we touched down the first thing we looked for was FOOD!

AFTER a satisfying meal at SM Megamall in Manila, the participants headed to Tagaytay International Convention Centre(TICC) where we were going to stay for the next 4 days. The weariness of travel was no match for the enthusiasm of the participants. After getting our rooms, we headed straight for dinner at “Twixt River & Road”, a farm owned by Rotarian Romeo, in a Jeepny(Philippine Taxi). There, we were served a spread of fresh salad, roast chicken marinated in herbs grown in the farm, bread with basil spread, pasta, roast pork and many more.

After the satisfying meal, we decided to settle in for the night.

31^st Aug – Day 1

IN special “uniforms” of our district, the delegates gathered together for registration. Thanks to IPP Wee of RAC Kota Melaka, our district stood out as the only district to specially make our own APRRC T-shirts and we received many compliments!

THE participants decided to make full use of the free hours after registration and before the Welcoming Dinner to explore Tagaytay City. Sampling the local food such as mushroom burgers and enjoying the view of the volcano. In the meantime, IPP Dalon and PP Michael attended the District Leaders meeting in preparation of the conference.

AT 7pm, all the participants were gathered at Villaluz resort & restaurant for our welcome dinner. We were given a taste of the “real” local food and many performances prepared by the Filipinos. It was a delight to have met over 500 delegates from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Australia and more!! To meet so many people from all over Asia in one place was simply amazing!!

Retiring to TICC after a long day, the delegates of D3310 gathered once again to rehearse for the Cultural night performance.

OUR district’s geographical challenge made it impossible to rehearse prior to the event, but that proved no difficulty for our determined delegates to put up a good show! Sacrificing sleep and rest to practice in to the wee hours, the delegates really proved that distance is no concern in a UNIFIED DISTRICT!

1^st Sept – Day 2

THE day began with a series of interesting talks and plenary sessions. With talks by Mr Dylan Wilks, R.I. Coordinator for International Projects, PDRR Simone Colins, founder of Rotaractnet and Member of Rotary International Rotaract Committee, it was a day of reflection and thought.

During the breaks, the delegates mingled and exchange of gifts, namecards and bannerettes became the highlight! Our district was also chosen to be interviewed live on national radio!!! The media coverage on rotaract in the Philippines is indeed amazing!

THE program of the day which all the participants were waiting for was of course the Cultural Performances. The performances on Cultural Night, really opened our eyes to the rich cultural diversity of Asia Pacific. It provided a great insight to the character of our neighbours.

RTR Eugene of RAC Kota Melaka – “It was a fun and good experience. I have NEVER met so many people in my life!”

Armed with our cultural costumes we sang a medley of songs, prepared by PP Michael, such as “Chan Mali Chan” and “Rasa Sayang”. It was a rare chance to express our culture to so many people and I can proudly say our district did us proud.

IT was unsurprising though that we lost to an energetic and powerful performance by Japan RID 2660. Armed with their dancing queen, DRR Mayako, and topless Japanese hunks, it hardly came as a surprise!

2^nd Sept – Day 3

THIS was a proud day for us when IPP Swee Xing of RAC NUS, invited by APRRC as a panelist, presented his club’s “Cambodia Overseas Volunteer Project”. It was indeed a proud moment for us to see IPP Swee Xiang representing our district and skillfully answering questions from the floor. Well Done!!!

IPP Low Swee Xiang of RAC NUS – “APRRC exposed me to the potential impact that like-minded rotaractors, all over the world, can make in their respective communities. Indeed, APRRC has united many rotaractors from diverse backgrounds in one common vision and passion: That together, we can be a beacon of light for change in our world to make a difference in many lives around us!”

WE were then given a booth during Rotaract Festival to present our country and once again our district did us proud by being one of the few who volunteered to showcase our district. ZR IPP Yvonne of RAC Likas Bay out did everyone by bringing 50KG of promotional items!!!

THE Districts of Philippines set up many booths with local delights and games. The delegates took the opportunity to sample various food and deserts of

and their local alcohol made of coconut, Lambanog. The brave and the iron stomachs went one step further to try the famous “Balut”!!!

AS the evening came, we had the closing ceremony of APRRC – Philipinas where they handed over to the next hosts of APRRC, Malaysia District 3300. After the ceremonies, it was officially FELLOWSHIP NIGHT!!! Delegates from all districts, danced, chatted and mingled to the music of DJs and a live band!

DURING the height of the party, the organizers announced that there would be a dance competition! Each country sent in their representatives and our district once again performed beyond expectation! Honorary Secretary Calvin Mak of RAC North West did us proud by winning the best male dancer!! Together with his dance partner, Rtr Lydia of RAC NUS, he put up a stunning performance which was captured on video and is now up for bidding for those who wish to view it.

FINALLY, as a remembrance of our experience, we left our handprints on a parchment prepared by the organizers and on the organizers too!!!

3^rd Sept – Day 4

The day of farewells and journeys home. It has certainly been and extraordinary trip for us and the warmth and hospitality of the Filipinos was felt by all. It was an amazing experience which ZR Yvonne sums up nicely, “It was soooooooooo enjoyable and really an unforgettable experience!”

For many of us, it was our first APRRC and it definitely wouldn’t be our last! It was an enriching experience that served to strengthen our passion for rotaract.

AHOY!!!! From Rotaract Club of North West

AYE!! 30^th July marked the 4^th Installation of the Rotaract Club of North West. Having had a fantastic year of rotaract, we were eager to make this a fun filled event to end the year and to welcome the era of President Wendy! The event was a double celebration for RAC NW as we were to sign a Twin Club agreement with the Rotaract club of Kelana Jaya!

THE theme “PIRATES”, chosen by Pres. Wendy, was certainly appropriate! ARR!! We pirates know how to have fun and we are “deadly” serious! Certainly a very good mix for an installation!

WITH all the personas, make ups and flamboyant costumes, we were ready to walk the plank! It was indeed our privilege to have many distinguished guests amongst us that day. Guest-Of-Honor, President Cheah Choon and fellow Rotarians from our sponsoring Rotary club of Suntec City occupied 2 whole tables! Rotarians from other clubs came to render their support as well and DR Lim, MP of Sembawang GRC graced us with his presence. Our dear District Team, very sportingly, came in full pirate attire (including monkeys)! Not forgetting our dear interactors of Evergreen Secondary who came dressed for the occasion and was our official Flag Bearers!

WE started off the day by allowing our guests to fill their tummies first. Then we showed a montage of our past year’s events to mark Pres. Dalon’s year. With a sigh of relief, Pres. Dalon gave his outgoing speech and extended the gratitude to his board and advisors with tokens of appreciation. HAPPILY, IPP Dalon performed the installation ceremony to officially install Pres. Wendy as the President for RAC NW 06/07.

AFTER installing her Board of Directors, Pres. Wendy put in effect her first official duty by inducting 2 new members of our club, Rtr Irene and Rtr Michelle. The 2 of them bringing the total of graduated Interactors from Evergreen Secondary to join our club to FOUR! AYE!! Much to our delight!

OUR Guest of Honour, Pres. Cheah Choon, gave his speech, challenging our rotaractors to join Rotary after “graduation” from Rotaract. *sweat*

AYE!! We have set a milestone in our club’s history. The signing of our first Twin Club!!! Pres. Derick of the Rotaract Club of Kelana Jaya together with PP Li-Ann (The Creator) and Rtr Teresa (Divine Goddess) represented their club. The 2 clubs aimed to have one joint Fellowship project and one International Community Service project together. A worthy goal indeed!

WITH all the formalities and protocols accomplished, we proceeded to the fun and games! (Pirates love to play!) Bingo was played and booty was won! Unfortunately RAC KM walked away empty handed AGAIN!! Tsk tsk….

RAC North West

About Rotaract Club of NorthWest

On 28 Oct 2000, it started off with a meeting between the Rotary Club of Suntec City and Mayor Teo Ho Pin of Northwest CDC. It was agreed upon that a Rotaract Club of Northwest would be set up by the Rotary Club of Suntec City. All potential Rotaractors were invited to a dinner at Marina Mandarin on 10th December 2000. During the dinner, PP. Claire Chiang briefed all present on the Rotaract Club. Mayor Teo Ho Pin also rendered his support for the formation of the Rotaract Club of Northwest.

A Rotaract protem committee was set up. Many formal and informal meetings as well as activities were held for members of the protem committee. The objective of the meetings was to create bonding effects among the potential members. The Charter Night for the Rotaractors took place on 14th June 2003 at the Meritus Mandarin Orchard.
